Type 2 to Type 2, 32A single phase (5m / 10m / 15m / 20m)

The Range Rover accepts up to 7 kW on AC. The 32A single-phase cable meets that figure exactly. Anything dearer adds capacity the onboard charger will simply refuse.

If you have just collected a used Range Rover and the seller kept the charging lead, this is the one to order: a Type 2 to Type 2 32A cable. Every plug-in Range Rover charges on AC at 7 kW, and a 32A cable carries more than that, so it never becomes the limit. The 5m and 10m versions both do the job.

First, check that your car plugs in at all. Vogue is a trim level, not a model, so the badge on the tailgate is what counts. Land Rover uses a lower case e to mark a plug-in hybrid. A P400e, P440e, P460e, P510e or P550e charges. A P530, P615, D300 or D350 does not, because those are either mild hybrid or straight combustion with no charging port anywhere on the car.

Beyond that, there are two very different plug-in Range Rovers and the difference is enormous. The L405 P400e, built from 2018 to 2021, carries 13.1 kWh gross. Land Rover never published a usable figure for it, and it has no rapid charging at all, so the Type 2 socket is the only way in. On a 32A cable it fills in roughly two hours, which is one of the quickest full charges you will find on any plug-in.

The L460, from 2022 onwards, is a far more serious machine. Its battery holds 31.8 kWh usable from 38.2 kWh gross, nearly three times the older car, and it takes about five hours to fill on a 7 kW supply. It also has CCS rapid charging at 50 kW, quoted at 40 minutes to 80 per cent, which is rare on a plug-in hybrid. Rapid units carry their own tethered lead, so that has no bearing on what you buy here.

Skip the three phase cable. Both cars cap AC charging at 7 kW, so the extra conductors sit idle, and a UK home supply is single phase anyway. The 16A cable is a step backwards too, turning the L460's five hour charge into nearly ten.

A Type 2 to 3 Pin lead is worth keeping in the boot for hotels and family driveways. Type 2 to Type 2 cables are IP55, Type 2 to 3 Pin cables are IP67, and all carry a 2 year manufacturer's warranty with free next working day UK delivery.

Which cable does a Range Rover P400e need?

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable, ideally 32A. Every plug-in Range Rover accepts 7 kW on AC, and a 32A lead carries that comfortably, so the car reaches its own ceiling. The same cable fits the older L405 P400e and every L460 from 2022 onwards without any adapter.

Does my Range Rover Vogue actually plug in?

Vogue is a trim level, so look at the engine badge instead. A lower case e means a plug-in hybrid: P400e, P440e, P460e, P510e and P550e all charge. A P530, P615, D300 or D350 has no charging port and cannot use a cable, since those are mild hybrid or conventional engines.

How long does a Range Rover P550e take to charge?

About 5 hours from empty on a 7 kW supply, since the L460 holds 31.8 kWh usable. A 16A cable stretches that to roughly 9 hours 45 minutes and a three pin lead to about 15 hours 30 minutes. The older 13.1 kWh L405 P400e is far quicker at around 2 hours.

Is a 32A cable worth it over a 16A one?

Yes on these cars. The 7 kW onboard charger needs a 32A cable to work at full speed, and a 16A lead caps you at 3.7 kW. That turns the L460's five hour charge into nearly ten hours, and the L405's two hour charge into four. The price difference is small.

Can my Range Rover use a rapid charger?

Only the L460 from 2022 onwards, which has a CCS socket rated at 50 kW and quoted at 40 minutes to 80 per cent. The earlier L405 P400e has no rapid charging at all. Either way, rapid units come with their own attached lead, so it does not change which cable you buy.

What length cable suits a Range Rover?

Ten metres is the safer choice on a car this long, especially if you park nose in on a driveway or use bays where the post sits behind you. Five metres works when the wallbox is mounted close to the parking space. We also stock 15 metre and 20 metre 32A cables.

Compatibility

Vogue is a trim level rather than a model, so what matters is the year and the badge. Land Rover's rule is that the lower-case e on the end means it plugs in: a P400e or P550e charges, a P530 or D350 does not. There are two very different plug-in Range Rovers. The L405 P400e of 2018 to 2021 has a 13.1 kWh battery, a 7 kW charger and no rapid charging at all. The L460 of 2022 onwards is a much more serious plug-in: a 38.2 kWh battery, nearly three times the size, and genuine 50 kW DC rapid charging, which almost no plug-in hybrid offers. Both use Type 2 for AC at 7 kW, so the cable is the same. If you have the newer car, it is worth knowing you can use a rapid charger on a motorway.

  • Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable:

    A charging cable that connects electric vehicles (EVs) with a Type 2 connector to charging points is also equipped with a Type 2 socket. It supports faster charging speeds and is commonly used across Europe for EVs with this standard connection.

  • Type 2 to 3 Pin Charging Cable:

  • 5m - Charging Cable Length

    A 5M charging cable is the shortest length that we offer. It is a great option if you can park close to the charge point and do not need much length to reach your car.

  • 10m - Charging Cable Length

    A 10M charging cable is the most popular length. It allows you to have enough flexibility whilst still being easy enough to move. This is a great option if you cannot park close to the electricity supply.

  • 15m - Charging Cable Length

    A 15M charging cable is a great choice if you need some extra flexibility, i.e. get past another car or reach the other end of a driveway. The length of the cable does not affect the charging speed.

  • 20m - Charging Cable Length

    A 20M charging cable is the longest cable that we currently offer. 20M reaches the vast majority of locations where you would want to charge your car. Always use one continuous cable. Never join two charging cables together and never charge through an extension lead, because the join is where heat builds up.

How to choose your charge speed
  • 6amp - 12amp Adjustable

    The choice if you will charge from a standard UK 3 pin socket. It runs at the most the socket can safely supply, and the control box lets you turn the current down for a slower, gentler charge overnight or on an older circuit.

  • 16amp

    A 16amp cable will be able to charge at 3.7kW. This is the cheapest product if your car's max charge speed is 3.7kW. If you have two electric cars or are looking to purchase another it might be worth considering a faster charging cable as this could limit charge speeds moving forward.

  • 32amp

    A 32amp charging cable will be able to charge at 7.4kW, which is the most a single phase UK home supply can deliver. A 32amp cable also charges at every lower speed (for example 16amp, 3.7kW), so it is the right choice if your home charge point is 7.4kW or you mostly charge at home.

  • 32amp (3 Phase)

    A 32amp 3-phase charging cable will be able to charge at all speeds up to 22kW, so the cable never limits your charge speed at home or in public. It is also capable of charging at all lower charge speeds.
