Product Description

Buying a Panamera E-Hybrid used and finding no cable in the boot is common, and replacing it correctly takes one piece of information: the rating of the onboard charger fitted to your car. Every plug-in Panamera uses a Type 2 socket, so the connector is never in doubt. What varies is how much the car will draw.

On cars from 2017 to 2023 Porsche fitted a 3.6 kW charger as standard and offered a 7.2 kW charger as a paid option. Usefully, the UK model name spells out which one you have, so your V5 or the original invoice settles it in seconds. A 3.6 kW car cannot use more than a 16A cable provides. A 7.2 kW car needs the 32A cable to work at full speed, and running one on a 16A lead roughly doubles every charge.

The generations themselves are straightforward. The 970.2 Panamera S E-Hybrid of 2013 to 2016 has a 9.4 kWh battery and around 3.6 kW, though Porsche never published a figure for that car. The 971 of 2017 to 2020 moved to 14.1 kWh. The 971.2 of 2021 to 2023 grew again to 17.9 kWh. From the 972 in 2024 onwards the battery is 25.9 kWh gross and, more importantly, 11 kW became standard on every E-Hybrid, which finally makes the 32A cable the obvious buy without checking any paperwork.

That 11 kW figure is a three phase number. British houses are single phase, so a 972 on a home wallbox charges at 7.4 kW and completes in about four hours. Reach a three phase post and the same car finishes in around two hours forty minutes. Only then does the three phase 32A cable earn its keep, and only on the 2024 car.

Two more points settle the rest. No Panamera plug-in hybrid of any generation has DC rapid charging, so the Type 2 socket is your only route in and the cable matters more than it would elsewhere. And the Sport Turismo and Executive bodies charge exactly as the saloon of the same year, so pick by year and charger rating, not by shape. A Panamera without the E-Hybrid name has no charging port at all.

Which cable does a Panamera E-Hybrid take?

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable on every generation, from the 9.4 kWh 970.2 through to the 25.9 kWh 972. Choose 16A if your car has the 3.6 kW charger and 32A if it has the 7.2 kW option or is a 2024 onwards car with 11 kW as standard.

How do I know my Panamera's charger rating?

Between 2017 and 2023 the UK model name states it, so your V5 document or original invoice will tell you whether the car left the factory with the 3.6 kW charger or the 7.2 kW option. Cars from 2024 need no checking at all, because 11 kW is standard on every E-Hybrid.

Is the 32A cable worth paying for?

It depends on the car. A 7.2 kW Panamera fills its 17.9 kWh pack in about 2 hours 45 minutes on 32A against 5 hours 30 minutes on 16A, so yes. A 3.6 kW car takes exactly the same time on either cable, so the 16A version is the sensible buy.

How long does a Panamera E-Hybrid take to charge?

The 14.1 kWh 971 needs about 4 hours 30 minutes at 3.6 kW or 2 hours 15 minutes at 7.2 kW. The 17.9 kWh 971.2 takes 5 hours 30 minutes or 2 hours 45 minutes. The 2024 car manages about 4 hours at home and roughly 2 hours 39 minutes on three phase.

Can a Panamera use a rapid charger?

No. Porsche has never given any plug-in hybrid Panamera a DC rapid charging socket, on any generation from 2013 to today. Everything goes in through the Type 2 inlet, which is why picking a cable matched to your onboard charger makes a real difference to how the car lives.

Does the Sport Turismo need a different cable?

No. The Sport Turismo and Executive bodies charge identically to the saloon of the same model year, so choose by year and charger rating rather than by body shape. A Panamera without the E-Hybrid name has no charging port, so no cable on this page will fit it.

  • Type 2 to 3 Pin Charging Cable:

  • 5m - Charging Cable Length

    A 5M charging cable is the shortest length that we offer. It is a great option if you can park close to the charge point and do not need much length to reach your car.

  • 10m - Charging Cable Length

    A 10M charging cable is the most popular length. It allows you to have enough flexibility whilst still being easy enough to move. This is a great option if you cannot park close to the electricity supply.

  • 15m - Charging Cable Length

    A 15M charging cable is a great choice if you need some extra flexibility, i.e. get past another car or reach the other end of a driveway. The length of the cable does not affect the charging speed.

  • 20m - Charging Cable Length

    A 20M charging cable is the longest cable that we currently offer. 20M reaches the vast majority of locations where you would want to charge your car. Always use one continuous cable. Never join two charging cables together and never charge through an extension lead, because the join is where heat builds up.

How to choose your charge speed
  • 6amp - 12amp Adjustable

    The choice if you will charge from a standard UK 3 pin socket. It runs at the most the socket can safely supply, and the control box lets you turn the current down for a slower, gentler charge overnight or on an older circuit.

  • 16amp

    A 16amp cable will be able to charge at 3.7kW. This is the cheapest product if your car's max charge speed is 3.7kW. If you have two electric cars or are looking to purchase another it might be worth considering a faster charging cable as this could limit charge speeds moving forward.

  • 32amp

    A 32amp charging cable will be able to charge at 7.4kW, which is the most a single phase UK home supply can deliver. A 32amp cable also charges at every lower speed (for example 16amp, 3.7kW), so it is the right choice if your home charge point is 7.4kW or you mostly charge at home.

  • 32amp (3 Phase)

    A 32amp 3-phase charging cable will be able to charge at all speeds up to 22kW, so the cable never limits your charge speed at home or in public. It is also capable of charging at all lower charge speeds.
