Product Description

A Polestar 4 charging cable is not something most owners can assume is already in the boot. Polestar lists the AC charging cable as an optional extra rather than standard equipment, priced under single options on its UK specification page, which puts this car in a small group where sorting out a lead is the first job after delivery. The number that matters at home does not vary: every Polestar 4 draws 7.4 kW from a British domestic supply, whatever charger is fitted behind the flap.

The fitting is a Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable, with Type 2 for AC and CCS2 for the DC socket beside it. That holds for the fastback delivered here since August 2024, for the Rear motor and Dual motor cars the range is sold as today, for the Long range Single motor and Long range Dual motor names in use when UK orders opened in January 2024, and for the Polestar 4 SUV announced on 2 September 2026 with UK deliveries due in the final quarter of the year. One cable covers both body styles.

The onboard AC charger is where the Polestar 4 gets complicated, and it is only fair to say we cannot tell you from here which one your car carries. A 22 kW unit was standard at UK launch, was later folded into the Plus Pack, and Polestar's current configurator shows 11 kW. The SUV is quoted at 11 kW. None of that alters anything on a driveway. A domestic supply in this country carries a single phase, and one phase holds the car to 7.4 kW whether the charger is the 11 kW unit or the 22 kW one. Our 32A single-phase Type 2 to Type 2 cable passes that 7.4 kW in full, and it is the correct cable for every Polestar 4 built, regardless of date or options list.

The 11 versus 22 kW question only turns into money at a three-phase post, which in practice means a workplace, a hotel or a destination charger rather than home. A 22 kW car empties-to-full there in about 4 hours 45 mins; an 11 kW car needs about 9 hours 45 mins for the same 94 kWh. So the 32A three-phase cable is a reasonable buy if you use three-phase posts often, but check the car before you order it. The original specification sheet, or the charging screen in the Polestar app, will say which charger you have, and there is no sense paying for 22 kW capability the car cannot use.

A 16A cable is hard to justify on a battery this size. Limited to 3.7 kW it takes 28 hours 45 mins to fill a Polestar 4 from empty, more than a day and a night, and adds roughly 15 miles for each hour connected against roughly 30 on the 32A lead. A seven hour overnight rate returns about 105 miles rather than about 210. On a 94 kWh car the cheaper cable is the more expensive decision.

The Type 2 to 3-Pin cable deserves a mention here for the same reason this page opened. At 2.3 kW it returns around 9 miles an hour and would take the better part of two days to fill the pack, so it is no way to run a car of this range. It is the thing that gets a newly delivered Polestar 4 moving when the AC cable was never added to the order and the wallbox is still weeks away, and afterwards it lives in the boot for nights away where the only power on offer is a socket in a barn. Sealed to IP67, and it dials down from 12A to 6A on suspect wiring.

Elsewhere in the range, the Polestar 2 and the larger Polestar 3 each set their own AC ceiling, and the Polestar charging cable range covers all of them.

The charge flap sits on the rear nearside wing, and the Polestar 4 is a long car, a shade under 4.9 metres, which counts for more here than it would on a hatchback. Reverse it up to a house wall and the flap ends up a metre from the wallbox. Leave it nose in, which is what most people do with a car that has no rear window, and that same flap is the best part of five metres further out, plus whatever gap you leave to open the doors. That is the case where 10m stops being optional. Detached garages, gated driveways and courtyard parking are 15m and 20m territory. On build: IEC 62196 Type 2, CE certified. The Type 2 to Type 2 cable is sealed to IP55 and the Type 2 to 3-Pin to IP67, both rated for use from -30C to +50C, or +60C for the 3-pin. Hourly mileage is worked from the Rear motor's 385 mile WLTP certification and the 94 kWh usable capacity of the 100 kWh pack, which is the only battery in the UK range. The Dual motor is certified at 367 miles and the Performance Pack car at 310 miles, so on those two the 32A single-phase cable returns approximately 29 miles and approximately 24 miles an hour. The figure drops in winter and at motorway pace.

Does a Polestar 4 come with a charging cable?

Often not. Polestar lists the AC charging cable for the Polestar 4 as an optional extra rather than standard equipment, under single options on its UK specification page, so whether one is in the boot depends on how the car was ordered. Check before delivery day. If it was not ticked, a 32A single-phase Type 2 to Type 2 cable is what the car needs.

What is the best charging cable for a Polestar 4?

The best charging cable for a Polestar 4 at home is a 32A single-phase Type 2 to Type 2 lead. It carries the 7.4 kW a British house can supply, which is the ceiling for this car on a domestic circuit no matter which onboard charger it left the factory with, and it fills the 94 kWh battery overnight and into the following morning at 14 hours 15 mins from empty.

Does a Polestar 4 have an 11kW or a 22kW onboard charger?

It depends on the individual Polestar 4. The 22 kW charger was standard when the car launched in the UK, then moved into the Plus Pack, and Polestar's current configurator lists 11 kW, with the SUV also quoted at 11 kW. The car's own specification sheet or the charging section of the Polestar app is the reliable answer. At home the distinction makes no difference, because a single-phase supply limits either version to 7.4 kW.

Would a 22kW cable speed up a Polestar 4 at home?

No, a 22 kW three-phase cable will not charge a Polestar 4 any faster on a house supply, which delivers one phase and therefore 7.4 kW at most. The three-phase lead pays for itself only at a genuine three-phase post, and how much it gains there depends on the car: about 9 hours 45 mins from empty with the 11 kW charger, about 4 hours 45 mins with the 22 kW one, against 14 hours 15 mins at home.

Will one cable fit both the Polestar 4 fastback and the SUV?

Yes. The Polestar 4 fastback and the Polestar 4 SUV announced in September 2026 both use a Type 2 inlet for AC charging, so a Type 2 to Type 2 cable fits either. The SUV is quoted at 11 kW AC, and on a UK home supply both body styles settle at 7.4 kW, which the 32A single-phase cable supplies in full.

How many metres of cable does a Polestar 4 need?

Ten metres is the safe answer for a Polestar 4, because the car is nearly 4.9 metres long and the charge flap is on the rear nearside wing. Park nose in and the socket sits almost a full car length from a wallbox on the house; back it in and 5m can be plenty. Pace the actual route rather than the straight line, and choose 15m or 20m for a detached garage or a bay away from the building.

Two things set this car apart. The AC lead is an optional extra rather than standard equipment, so a good many cars arrive with nothing in the boot to reach a wallbox with. And nobody can tell you from a distance which onboard charger sits behind your flap, given that 22 kW was fitted at launch, then moved into the Plus Pack, and 11 kW is what the configurator lists now. On a British driveway that whole argument evaporates: one phase pins any of these cars to 7.4 kW, which the 32A single-phase cable delivers in full. Only somebody who uses three-phase posts regularly needs to check the original specification sheet, or the charging screen in the app, before paying for the dearer lead.

  • Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable:

    A 5M charging cable is the shortest length that we offer. It is a great option if you can park close to the charge point and do not need much length to reach your car.

  • 10m - Charging Cable Length

    A 10M charging cable is the most popular length. It allows you to have enough flexibility whilst still being easy enough to move. This is a great option if you cannot park close to the electricity supply.

  • 15m - Charging Cable Length

    A 15M charging cable is a great choice if you need some extra flexibility, i.e. get past another car or reach the other end of a driveway. The length of the cable does not affect the charging speed.

  • 20m - Charging Cable Length

    A 20M charging cable is the longest cable that we currently offer. 20M reaches the vast majority of locations where you would want to charge your car. Always use one continuous cable. Never join two charging cables together and never charge through an extension lead, because the join is where heat builds up.

How to choose your charge speed
  • 6amp - 12amp Adjustable

    The choice if you will charge from a standard UK 3 pin socket. It runs at the most the socket can safely supply, and the control box lets you turn the current down for a slower, gentler charge overnight or on an older circuit.

  • 16amp

    A 16amp cable will be able to charge at 3.7kW. This is the cheapest product if your car's max charge speed is 3.7kW. If you have two electric cars or are looking to purchase another it might be worth considering a faster charging cable as this could limit charge speeds moving forward.

  • 32amp

    A 32amp charging cable will be able to charge at 7.4kW, which is the most a single phase UK home supply can deliver. A 32amp cable also charges at every lower speed (for example 16amp, 3.7kW), so it is the right choice if your home charge point is 7.4kW or you mostly charge at home.

  • 32amp (3 Phase)

    A 32amp 3-phase charging cable will be able to charge at all speeds up to 22kW, so the cable never limits your charge speed at home or in public. It is also capable of charging at all lower charge speeds.
