Product Description

Check the socket before you order anything. The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV uses a Type 1 inlet, not the Type 2 fitted to almost every other plug-in car sold here. A Type 2 cable will not physically go in. What you need is a Type 1 to Type 2 cable, Type 1 at the car and Type 2 at the charge point.

The 16A version is the right buy, and that is unusual advice. Every Outlander PHEV sold in Britain caps at about 3.6 kW on AC, and a 16A cable supplies exactly that. The 32A cable fits and works, but it cannot make the car draw more than 3.6 kW, so it finishes at the same minute for more money. Buy it only if a faster Type 1 car will share the same cable.

There is also no 22 kW option here, and there never will be. Type 1 is a five pin, single phase connector, so three phase cannot pass through it. Any listing offering a three phase Type 1 lead is describing something that does not exist.

Which Outlander you have changes the clock but not the cable. The 2014 to 2018 car carries 12 kWh and fills in about three and three quarter hours. The 2019 to 2021 facelift carries 13.8 kWh and takes around four and a half. The Eclipse Cross PHEV uses the same running gear and the same advice applies.

On a battery this size a household socket is a real charging method rather than a last resort. Our Type 1 to 3 Pin cable draws 2.3 kW and fills a 12 kWh Outlander in about six hours, so an ordinary overnight plug-in does the whole job with no wallbox at all. It is IP67 sealed, so it can sit outside in the rain while it works.

Which charging cable does a Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV need?

A Type 1 to Type 2 cable in the 16A rating. The Outlander PHEV has a Type 1 inlet, which is why an ordinary Type 2 to Type 2 cable will not fit it, and its onboard charger stops at about 3.6 kW, which the 16A cable supplies in full.

Will a 32A cable charge my Outlander PHEV faster?

No, not by one minute. The 32A cable is rated for 7.4 kW but the Outlander PHEV will only ever draw about 3.6 kW, so both cables finish the battery at the same time. The only reason to spend the extra is if a quicker Type 1 car is going to borrow the same lead.

Can I charge an Outlander PHEV from a normal plug socket?

Yes, and on this car it works properly rather than being an emergency measure. The Type 1 to 3 Pin cable draws 2.3 kW and refills a 12 kWh Outlander in about six hours, so plugging in when you get home covers a full charge before morning without any wallbox.

Is there a 22kW cable for a Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV?

No, and there cannot be. Type 1 is a five pin single phase connector, so it has no way to carry three phases. The physical ceiling for the standard is 7.4 kW, and this car stops well below that anyway at 3.6 kW.

Do the 2014 and 2019 Outlander PHEVs need different cables?

They take exactly the same cable. The 2019 facelift grew the battery from 12 kWh to 13.8 kWh, so it takes about forty five minutes longer to fill, but the socket and the 3.6 kW charging speed did not change between them.

Does every Mitsubishi Outlander plug in?

Only the PHEV. Mitsubishi sold 2.0 petrol and 2.2 diesel Outlanders alongside it, including seven seat versions, and none of those has a charging port. If there is only one flap on the car and it takes fuel, you do not need a cable.

    A 5M charging cable is the shortest length that we offer. It is a great option if you can park close to the charge point and do not need much length to reach your car.

  • 10m - Charging Cable Length

    A 10M charging cable is the most popular length. It allows you to have enough flexibility whilst still being easy enough to move. This is a great option if you cannot park close to the electricity supply.

  • 15m - Charging Cable Length

    A 15M charging cable is a great choice if you need some extra flexibility, i.e. get past another car or reach the other end of a driveway. The length of the cable does not affect the charging speed.

  • 20m - Charging Cable Length

    A 20M charging cable is the longest cable that we currently offer. 20M reaches the vast majority of locations where you would want to charge your car. Always use one continuous cable. Never join two charging cables together and never charge through an extension lead, because the join is where heat builds up.

How to choose your charge speed
  • 6amp - 12amp Adjustable

    The choice if you will charge from a standard UK 3 pin socket. It runs at the most the socket can safely supply, and the control box lets you turn the current down for a slower, gentler charge overnight or on an older circuit.

  • 16amp

    A 16amp cable will be able to charge at 3.7kW. This is the cheapest product if your car's max charge speed is 3.7kW. If you have two electric cars or are looking to purchase another it might be worth considering a faster charging cable as this could limit charge speeds moving forward.

  • 32amp

    A 32amp charging cable will be able to charge at 7.4kW, which is the most a single phase UK home supply can deliver. A 32amp cable also charges at every lower speed (for example 16amp, 3.7kW), so it is the right choice if your home charge point is 7.4kW or you mostly charge at home.

  • 32amp (3 Phase)

    A 32amp 3-phase charging cable will be able to charge at all speeds up to 22kW, so the cable never limits your charge speed at home or in public. It is also capable of charging at all lower charge speeds.
