Product Description

A Mini Aceman charging cable is chosen around one number, an 11 kW AC, three phase onboard charger, carried by every Aceman since UK deliveries began in November 2024. Aceman E, Aceman SE and the John Cooper Works all pull at that same rate, so the 38.5 kWh and 49.2 kWh packs differ only in how long they sit there. Choose the amperage on the charger, then choose the length on where the socket ends up, and on this car the second half is the awkward one.

Every Mini Aceman takes a Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable, and the flap is on the rear offside, the driver's side of the car. That is worth knowing before you order, because rear nearside is the usual place for it on a small hatchback. Park an Aceman nose in on a driveway with the wallbox on the house wall and the inlet finishes at the far back corner, diagonally opposite the charger.

Speed is the other half. An 11 kW rating counts three phases arriving together at the charger. A British domestic connection brings in one of them, so the Aceman levels off at 7.4 kW on a driveway, and our 32A single-phase Type 2 to Type 2 cable hands over all of it. That empties to full in 7 hours 30 mins on the 49.2 kWh SE. The 32A three-phase version is a workplace purchase: buy it if you park at a 22 kW post most days, skip it if the car lives at home.

The 16A cable is where an Aceman loses the most. It pegs the car at 3.7 kW, stretching that SE charge from 7 hours 30 mins to 15 hours and cutting the miles returned per hour from about 38 to about 19. Across a seven hour off-peak window that is roughly 266 miles of cheap electricity against roughly 133. On a car this size the saving on the cable is gone within a month.

Mini supplies a Mode 3 Type 2 lead with the Aceman but no 3-pin lead, so charging from a household socket is something you have to buy into. Our Type 2 to 3-Pin cable moves 2.3 kW, about 11 miles of range an hour, adjusts down from 12A to 6A for older house wiring and is IP67 sealed for outdoor use. Think of it as the lead for a weekend at a cottage with no charge point, not as a way of running the car.

Length is where the offside flap earns its own paragraph. Run the tape the way the cable has to run, from the wallbox around the bodywork to the flap, not straight across the roof. Nose in with the unit beside the front door and 10m is the honest answer, because the cable has to travel the whole flank of the car before it reaches anything. 5m works where the wallbox and the driver's side finish up together, typically a garage with the unit on the right hand wall, or a bay you reverse into. Take 15m or 20m where the Aceman parks well away from the house, or where the wallbox went onto a detached garage.

The John Cooper Works Aceman is quoted at 213 to 243 miles and charges at the same 11 kW. Range per hour is worked from the top WLTP figure for each battery. The figure drops in winter and at motorway pace.

What charging cable fits a Mini Aceman?

A Mini Aceman fits a Type 2 to Type 2 charging cable, ordered in 32A single phase for driveway use. The Aceman's onboard charger is an 11 kW three-phase unit, which becomes 7.4 kW behind a normal British house supply, and 32A carries that without restricting anything. The same lead plugs into untethered public AC posts, which use an identical Type 2 socket.

Which side is the charge port on a Mini Aceman?

The Mini Aceman charges through a flap on the rear offside, meaning the driver's side of the car in the UK. Most rivals of this size use the rear nearside or a front wing, so anyone coming out of another small electric hatchback should not assume the routine carries over. It is the single detail that decides whether 5m or 10m is right.

Should a Mini Aceman owner buy 5m or 10m?

Ten metres is the safer default for a Mini Aceman on a nose-in driveway, because the offside rear flap sits diagonally across the car from a wallbox mounted by the house door. Five metres is enough when the charge point and the driver's side end up on the same side of the bay, such as a garage with the unit on the right hand wall. Measure the route the cable actually takes, around the car rather than over it.

Do I need the 22kW cable for a Mini Aceman?

Only if you regularly charge a Mini Aceman somewhere with a genuine three-phase feed, such as an office car park with 22 kW posts. The Aceman will not exceed 11 kW whatever it is plugged into, and at home a single-phase supply holds it to 7.4 kW, so the three-phase lead performs no better than the cheaper 32A one on a driveway. Where three phases do exist, the 49.2 kWh SE drops from 7 hours 30 mins to 5 hours.

Does the Mini Aceman come with a charging cable?

A Mini Aceman is supplied with a Mode 3 Type 2 cable but not with a 3-pin lead. So a second Type 2 to Type 2 cable is a length decision, worth making when the supplied one will not reach the offside rear flap or when you want one lead in the boot and another left permanently at the wallbox. A Type 2 to 3-Pin cable, on the other hand, is not in the car at all and has to be bought.

How far does a Mini Aceman get on one cheap-rate night?

A Mini Aceman gains roughly 266 miles across a seven hour off-peak window on the 32A single-phase cable, at about 38 miles for every hour connected. That covers the SE's whole 252 mile WLTP range in a single night. On a 16A lead the same seven hours return about 133 miles, so half the window is effectively wasted.

All three Acemans share one charger, so the rows above change only how long the car sits connected, and the choice that really bites on this model is length. That flap lives on the rear offside, the driver's side, which is not where a small hatchback normally puts it, and parking nose in leaves the socket diagonally opposite a wallbox by the door. On rating, reaching 11 kW would take three phases arriving together; a house brings one, the Aceman therefore levels off at 7.4 kW, and a 32A single-phase cable hands over all of it. Save the three-phase version for anyone who parks daily at a 22 kW workplace post. Mini supplies a Mode 3 cable with the car but no domestic-socket lead whatsoever.

    A 5M charging cable is the shortest length that we offer. It is a great option if you can park close to the charge point and do not need much length to reach your car.

    A 10M charging cable is the most popular length. It allows you to have enough flexibility whilst still being easy enough to move. This is a great option if you cannot park close to the electricity supply.

  • 15m - Charging Cable Length

    A 15M charging cable is a great choice if you need some extra flexibility, i.e. get past another car or reach the other end of a driveway. The length of the cable does not affect the charging speed.

  • 20m - Charging Cable Length

    A 20M charging cable is the longest cable that we currently offer. 20M reaches the vast majority of locations where you would want to charge your car. Always use one continuous cable. Never join two charging cables together and never charge through an extension lead, because the join is where heat builds up.

How to choose your charge speed
  • 6amp - 12amp Adjustable

    The choice if you will charge from a standard UK 3 pin socket. It runs at the most the socket can safely supply, and the control box lets you turn the current down for a slower, gentler charge overnight or on an older circuit.

  • 16amp

    A 16amp cable will be able to charge at 3.7kW. This is the cheapest product if your car's max charge speed is 3.7kW. If you have two electric cars or are looking to purchase another it might be worth considering a faster charging cable as this could limit charge speeds moving forward.

  • 32amp

    A 32amp charging cable will be able to charge at 7.4kW, which is the most a single phase UK home supply can deliver. A 32amp cable also charges at every lower speed (for example 16amp, 3.7kW), so it is the right choice if your home charge point is 7.4kW or you mostly charge at home.

  • 32amp (3 Phase)

    A 32amp 3-phase charging cable will be able to charge at all speeds up to 22kW, so the cable never limits your charge speed at home or in public. It is also capable of charging at all lower charge speeds.
