Product Description

The Jeep Avenger Electric takes 11 kW AC, which is a three phase figure. On a normal UK home supply the car draws 7.4 kW, and a 32A single phase Type 2 to Type 2 charging cable delivers every watt of it. Before buying anything, check which Avenger sits on your drive, because most of the UK range has no charging socket at all.

Jeep sells four Avenger powertrains in Britain and only one of them plugs in. The 1.2 petrol and the e-Hybrid are self charging. So is the Avenger 4xe, despite the badge: on this car 4xe means the 48 volt four wheel drive system, not a plug-in hybrid, and there is no inlet anywhere on the vehicle. Only the Avenger Electric, sold as e-Longitude, e-Altitude and e-Summit, can accept a cable. If your Avenger has no flap on the rear left wing, no cable on this site will help you.

Assuming you have the Electric, it uses a Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable. The inlet is a CCS Combo 2, and the round Type 2 section at the top is the part your AC cable plugs into. The larger pins underneath are for public rapid units and are not used at home. There is no Type 1 version of the Avenger.

The 32A single phase cable is the one to buy. Your house has one phase coming into it, so the 11 kW the Avenger can theoretically accept is not available at a domestic wallbox no matter what cable you own. The 32A single phase lead carries the full 7.4 kW your supply can give and fills the 51 kWh battery in about 7 hours 45 minutes. A three phase cable only earns its money if you also charge at a workplace or industrial unit with three phases wired in, where the Avenger will pull the full 11 kW and finish in around 5 hours 15 minutes.

A 16A cable caps the car at 3.7 kW and doubles that to roughly 15 hours 30 minutes. Put another way, a seven hour overnight cheap rate window gives you about 250 miles on the 32A cable and about 125 on the 16A. On a car with a 248 mile WLTP range that is the difference between waking up full and waking up half full, every single night. The saving on the cheaper lead is gone inside a few months of missed off peak hours.

A Type 2 to 3-Pin Charging Cable is still worth keeping in the boot. It runs at 2.3 kW, adds around 11 miles an hour and needs 25 hours to fill the Avenger from flat, so it is not a primary charger. What it does is turn any ordinary socket into a slow charger when you are staying with family, parked at a holiday cottage or somewhere a wallbox does not exist. Jeep supplies the Avenger with a single phase Mode 3 cable, not a three pin one, so this is a genuine gap in the standard kit.

Does my Jeep Avenger actually need a charging cable?

Only the Jeep Avenger Electric needs one. The Avenger petrol, the Avenger e-Hybrid and the Avenger 4xe are all 48 volt self charging systems with no charging inlet, so no cable of any kind will connect to them. Look for a charging flap on the rear left wing. If there is not one, your Avenger cannot be plugged in.

Why is the Avenger 4xe not a plug-in hybrid?

On the Jeep Avenger, 4xe denotes the 48 volt electric four wheel drive system with a motor on the rear axle, not a plug-in battery. Jeep uses the same 4xe badge on the Renegade and the older Compass where it does mean a plug-in hybrid, which is where the confusion comes from. The Avenger 4xe has no socket and recharges its small battery from the engine and from braking.

Which cable is right for a Jeep Avenger Electric?

A 32A single phase Type 2 to Type 2 charging cable suits almost every Jeep Avenger Electric owner. It delivers the full 7.4 kW a UK home supply can provide and charges the car from empty in about 7 hours 45 minutes, comfortably inside one overnight off peak period.

Would a 22kW cable speed up an Avenger Electric?

Not at a house. The Jeep Avenger Electric accepts 11 kW, and reaching that requires a three phase electricity supply, which UK homes do not have. A three phase cable is worth buying only if you regularly charge somewhere with three phases available, such as a workplace car park or a commercial unit, where the Avenger will complete a charge in about 5 hours 15 minutes.

How long a cable does a Jeep Avenger need?

The Jeep Avenger Electric has its charging flap on the rear left wing and the car is just over four metres long, so a 5m cable reaches a wallbox on the same side of a standard driveway. Owners who reverse onto the drive, or whose wallbox sits on the opposite side of the garage, are better off with a 10m lead. Measure from the socket to where the rear left corner of the car ends up parked, not to the front of the car.

How much range does an Avenger gain in one cheap rate window?

A seven hour off peak window on a 32A single phase cable puts roughly 250 miles into a Jeep Avenger Electric, which is a full charge from close to empty. The same window on a 16A cable gives about 125 miles. For most owners that single difference is the whole argument for the 32A lead.

Compatibility

There is a trap on this page that is worth a minute of your time. Across most of the Jeep range, 4xe means plug-in hybrid. On the Avenger it does not: the Avenger 4xe is a 48V mild hybrid with all-wheel drive and no charging port at all. The same goes for the Avenger e-Hybrid and the 1.2 petrol. The only Avenger you can plug in is the one badged simply Avenger Electric. If your car has a 4xe badge and you are on this page, please check for a charging flap before ordering. On the electric car itself the specification is straightforward: 54 kWh, Type 2, 11 kW charger as standard across every trim, plus CCS rapid charging.

  • Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable:

  • Type 2 to 3 Pin Charging Cable:

  • 5m - Charging Cable Length

    A 5M charging cable is the shortest length that we offer. It is a great option if you can park close to the charge point and do not need much length to reach your car.

  • 10m - Charging Cable Length

    A 10M charging cable is the most popular length. It allows you to have enough flexibility whilst still being easy enough to move. This is a great option if you cannot park close to the electricity supply.

  • 15m - Charging Cable Length

    A 15M charging cable is a great choice if you need some extra flexibility, i.e. get past another car or reach the other end of a driveway. The length of the cable does not affect the charging speed.

  • 20m - Charging Cable Length

    A 20M charging cable is the longest cable that we currently offer. 20M reaches the vast majority of locations where you would want to charge your car. Always use one continuous cable. Never join two charging cables together and never charge through an extension lead, because the join is where heat builds up.

How to choose your charge speed
  • 6amp - 12amp Adjustable

    The choice if you will charge from a standard UK 3 pin socket. It runs at the most the socket can safely supply, and the control box lets you turn the current down for a slower, gentler charge overnight or on an older circuit.

  • 16amp

    A 16amp cable will be able to charge at 3.7kW. This is the cheapest product if your car's max charge speed is 3.7kW. If you have two electric cars or are looking to purchase another it might be worth considering a faster charging cable as this could limit charge speeds moving forward.

  • 32amp

    A 32amp charging cable will be able to charge at 7.4kW, which is the most a single phase UK home supply can deliver. A 32amp cable also charges at every lower speed (for example 16amp, 3.7kW), so it is the right choice if your home charge point is 7.4kW or you mostly charge at home.

  • 32amp (3 Phase)

    A 32amp 3-phase charging cable will be able to charge at all speeds up to 22kW, so the cable never limits your charge speed at home or in public. It is also capable of charging at all lower charge speeds.
