Product Description

The Genesis Electrified G80 takes 11 kW AC, and it has done since launch across both generations. That is a three phase rating, so a home wallbox on a single phase supply feeds the car 7.4 kW, which a 32A single phase Type 2 to Type 2 charging cable carries in full.

Every Electrified G80 uses a Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable. Genesis fits a CCS Combo 2 inlet, and the AC cable connects to the Type 2 section at the top of it.

There is a useful truth about a car like this that gets lost in charging comparisons. An empty to full time is close to meaningless on a G80. This is a 323 to 354 mile executive saloon, and owners overwhelmingly plug in every night or two with half a battery remaining rather than running it flat and starting from zero. The figure that governs your actual experience is how many miles the car gains per hour while you are asleep, not how many hours a theoretical full charge would take.

On that measure the 32A single phase cable returns about 27 to 28 miles an hour, so an ordinary seven hour off peak window puts roughly 190 miles into the car. For almost every G80 owner that is a full week of driving recovered in a single night, and it is why the 32A lead is the right buy even though the numbers in the table below look long.

A 16A cable halves that to around 14 miles an hour, or about 100 miles overnight. On a car this size the gap shows up as a battery that never quite gets back to full during the week, which then forces a public charging stop you did not need to make. The price difference between the two cables is recovered quickly once that starts happening.

A 22 kW three phase cable is limited by the G80 to 11 kW and needs three phases at the socket to deliver even that. Domestic supplies in Britain carry one phase, so at home the three phase lead and the 32A single phase lead behave identically. It is worth the money only where you also charge at a business premises with a three phase feed, which lifts the car to about 41 miles an hour.

Keep a Type 2 to 3-Pin Charging Cable in the boot regardless. At 2.3 kW it adds around 9 miles an hour, which will not fill a G80 but will quietly recover 60 or 70 miles overnight at a hotel or a friend's house where no charge point exists. For a car often used for long business trips that is a genuinely useful piece of kit.

The Genesis GV60 charging cable page covers the brand's electric SUV, which uses the same 11 kW charger. Our full range of leads for cars like this sits in the Type 2 charging cables collection.

Certification runs to IEC 62196 Type 2 with CE approval on every cable. A Type 2 to Type 2 lead is sealed to IP55 and a Type 2 to 3-Pin lead to IP67, with an operating range of -30C to +50C, or +60C for the 3-pin. All cables carry a 2 year manufacturer's warranty and free next working day UK delivery.

Genesis states pack size but not usable capacity, so both sets of times are worked from the total figure and a real charge will complete sooner. Genesis has also printed the facelift battery as both 94.5 and 97.5 kWh in different documents. The figure drops in winter and at motorway pace.

FAQs

Genesis G80 Charging Cable FAQs

Which cable is right for a Genesis Electrified G80?

A 32A single phase Type 2 to Type 2 charging cable is right for a Genesis Electrified G80 charging at home. It provides the full 7.4 kW available from a UK domestic supply and returns roughly 190 miles across a normal overnight off peak window.

Does the newer G80 charge faster than the earlier one?

No. Both generations of the Genesis Electrified G80 use an 11 kW onboard AC charger, so a given cable delivers the same power to either car. The 2025 facelift carries a larger battery, 94.5 kWh against 87.2 kWh, so a full charge takes slightly longer while adding more range in total.

Is three phase worth paying for on a G80?

Only where you can plug into three phases. The Genesis Electrified G80 tops out at 11 kW, and that rate needs a three phase supply of the kind found at commercial premises rather than houses. On a home wallbox a 22 kW cable and a 32A single phase cable charge a G80 at identical speed.

How many miles does a G80 gain overnight?

Roughly 190 miles in a seven hour cheap rate period using a 32A single phase cable. A 16A cable brings the Genesis Electrified G80 about 100 miles over the same period. Since most G80 owners plug in with charge still in the battery, that overnight figure matters far more than any empty to full time.

What length of cable does a Genesis G80 need?

The Genesis Electrified G80 is a long saloon at just over five metres, with the charging inlet on the front left wing. Park nose in towards the wallbox and 5m reaches easily. Reverse in and the inlet ends up five metres further away, which makes 10m the sensible default for anyone who does not always park the same way round.

Will my own lead work on a public AC post?

It will. Untethered Type 2 sockets are the norm on UK public AC charging posts, and a Genesis Electrified G80 driver carrying a Type 2 to Type 2 lead can plug into them directly. Rapid DC chargers have their cables permanently fitted, so nothing of yours is needed there.

Compatibility

Only the Electrified G80 plugs in. The petrol G80 is a conventional car with no charging port, and the two are sold side by side under the same nameplate, so it is worth checking the badge on the boot before ordering. On the electric car the specification is simple: Type 2 for AC, CCS for rapid charging, and an 11 kW onboard charger on both the original 82.5 kWh version and the larger 90 kWh facelift. At home on a single-phase UK supply that becomes about 7.4 kW, so a 32A Type 2 cable is the right buy. Genesis withdrew the earlier Electrified G80 from sale in mid-2025.

Sizing guide
  • Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable:

A charging cable that connects electric vehicles (EVs) with a Type 2 connector to charging points is also equipped with a Type 2 socket. It supports faster charging speeds and is commonly used across Europe for EVs with this standard connection.

  • Type 2 to 3 Pin Charging Cable:

This cable allows electric vehicles with a Type 2 socket to charge from a standard UK 3-pin domestic outlet. It provides a slower charge but is useful for home or emergency charging when dedicated charging stations aren't available.

  • Type 2 Extension Cable:

A cable used to extend the reach of a Type 2 charging cable. It's helpful when the existing cable is too short to connect an electric vehicle to the charging point, providing more flexibility in parking.

  • Type 2 Tethered Cable:

A fixed charging cable attached to a charging point, designed for electric vehicles with a Type 2 socket. The tethered design eliminates the need to carry a separate cable, offering convenience for regular charging at home or work.

  • Type 1 to Type 2 Charging Cable:

A charging cable that connects electric vehicles with a Type 1 socket to charging points equipped with a Type 2 outlet. This allows EVs with the older Type 1 standard to use more modern charging infrastructure.

  • Type 1 to 3 Pin Charging Cable:

This cable enables electric vehicles with a Type 1 connector to charge from a standard UK 3-pin household outlet. It's suitable for slower charging at home when dedicated EV charging points aren't accessible.

Sizing guide
  • 5m - Charging Cable Length

A 5M charging cable is the shortest length that we offer. It is a great option if you can park close to the charge point and do not need much length to reach your car.

  • 10m - Charging Cable Length

A 10M charging cable is the most popular length. It allows you to have enough flexibility whilst still being easy enough to move. This is a great option if you cannot park close to the electricity supply.

  • 15m - Charging Cable Length

A 15M charging cable is a great choice if you need some extra flexibility, i.e. get past another car or reach the other end of a driveway. The length of the cable does not affect the charging speed.

  • 20m - Charging Cable Length

A 20M charging cable is the longest cable that we currently offer. 20M reaches the vast majority of locations where you would want to charge your car. Always use one continuous cable. Never join two charging cables together and never charge through an extension lead, because the join is where heat builds up.

How to choose your charge speed
  • 6amp - 12amp Adjustable

The choice if you will charge from a standard UK 3 pin socket. It runs at the most the socket can safely supply, and the control box lets you turn the current down for a slower, gentler charge overnight or on an older circuit.

  • 16amp

A 16amp cable will be able to charge at 3.7kW. This is the cheapest product if your car's max charge speed is 3.7kW. If you have two electric cars or are looking to purchase another it might be worth considering a faster charging cable as this could limit charge speeds moving forward.

  • 32amp

A 32amp charging cable will be able to charge at 7.4kW, which is the most a single phase UK home supply can deliver. A 32amp cable also charges at every lower speed (for example 16amp, 3.7kW), so it is the right choice if your home charge point is 7.4kW or you mostly charge at home.

  • 32amp (3 Phase)

A 32amp 3-phase charging cable will be able to charge at all speeds up to 22kW, so the cable never limits your charge speed at home or in public. It is also capable of charging at all lower charge speeds.
