Product Description

EV Cable Shop recommendation

Type 2 to Type 2, 32A three phase, 22 kW (5m / 10m)

The Ford Mustang Mach-E accepts up to 11 kW on AC. That is what the 22 kW cable is built for, and a workplace or commercial three-phase supply is where it pays the difference back.

Never charge anywhere but home? Then the extra phases have nothing to connect to. A domestic wallbox gives 7.4 kW and the 32A single-phase cable (5m / 10m / 15m / 20m) delivers exactly that.

Every UK Ford Mustang Mach-E has an 11 kW three phase onboard charger, on every battery and every model year. The 10.5 kW figure that turns up on forums and spec sites is the North American number, and it does not apply to cars sold here. What matters far more than either figure is the size of the pack behind it. With up to 91 kWh usable, the Mach-E holds more energy than almost anything else on this site, and that changes which cables are actually useful rather than merely compatible.

The Ford Mustang Mach-E charging cable you need is a Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable. Ford puts the inlet on the nearside front wing, just ahead of the driver's door on a UK car, so the lead approaches from the front corner rather than the rear.

Order the 32A single phase cable for home. That 11 kW rating assumes three phases arriving at the building, and a British house has one, so the car settles at 7.4 kW on a domestic wallbox and the 32A single phase lead carries every watt of it. The 22 kW three phase cable is the exception worth knowing about here: at a workplace or commercial site with a genuine three phase supply, a Mach-E really can pull its full 11 kW and an Extended Range car drops from 14 hours to 9 hours 15 minutes. Buy it for that, and only for that.

The 16A cable does not belong on this car. It caps the Mach-E at 3.7 kW, which turns an Extended Range charge into 27 hours 45 minutes and halves recovery to about 15 miles an hour. Twenty seven and three quarter hours is not a home charge, it is a weekend project.

The 3-pin option needs an honest warning on a car this size. Our Type 2 to 3-Pin Charging Cable takes 2.3 kW from a 13 amp socket, about 9 miles an hour, so it will never fill a 91 kWh battery in any sensible timeframe. What it does do is add 70 to 90 miles across a night parked at a hotel or a friend's house, which on a car with this much range is usually all you need to get home. Our guide covers what a domestic socket realistically delivers.

Ford's newer electric SUV is covered on the Ford Explorer charging cable page, and the small one on the Ford Puma Gen-E charging cable page. The whole range sits under Ford EV charging cables, and our IP ratings guide explains what the sealing figures below cover.

Free next working day UK delivery applies to every lead here. Each one is built to IEC 62196 Type 2 and holds CE certification, works between -30C to +50C, or +60C for the 3-pin, and comes with a 2 year manufacturer's warranty. Type 2 to Type 2 is rated IP55 and the Type 2 to 3-Pin cable is IP67.

FAQs

Ford Mustang Mach-E Charging Cable FAQs

What cable does a Ford Mustang Mach-E need?

A 32A single phase Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable is the one to get for a Ford Mustang Mach-E at home. The car is rated at 11 kW, which is a three phase figure, and a British house supplies 7.4 kW of that, which the 32A lead carries in full.

Is the Ford Mustang Mach-E 10.5kW or 11kW on AC?

UK Ford Mustang Mach-E cars are 11 kW. The 10.5 kW number comes from North American specification sheets and gets copied onto British listings, but it makes no practical difference at home, where both would be held to 7.4 kW by the supply rather than by the car.

Do I need the 22kW cable for a Ford Mustang Mach-E?

Only if you regularly charge the Ford Mustang Mach-E somewhere with a real three phase supply, such as a workplace or an industrial unit. There it takes an Extended Range car from 14 hours to 9 hours 15 minutes. On a house it delivers precisely what the cheaper 32A single phase cable delivers.

How long does a Ford Mustang Mach-E take to charge at home?

About 14 hours from empty for the 91 kWh Extended Range on a 32A cable, 11 hours for the 72.6 kWh Select and 10 hours 45 minutes for the 70 kWh Standard Range. In practice almost nobody arrives home empty, and an overnight cheap rate window puts back 200 miles or more on the bigger packs.

What cable length suits a Ford Mustang Mach-E?

The inlet is on the nearside front wing and the car is 4.7 metres long, so 5m is fine when the wallbox sits near the front of a driveway on that side. If the unit is by the garage door behind the car, or the Mach-E shares the space with a second vehicle, take the 10m.

Is a 3-pin cable any use on a Ford Mustang Mach-E?

Yes, as backup rather than as a charging method. A 3-pin lead gives a Ford Mustang Mach-E about 9 miles of range an hour, so a full charge is out of the question, but a night on a household socket away from home still returns 70 to 90 miles.

Compatibility

The Mach-E is unusually simple to buy a cable for. Every UK car, from the 2021 launch models through to the current Rally, uses a Type 2 socket and an 11 kW onboard charger. Ford changed the battery three times over the model's life but never changed the charging hardware, so one cable covers the whole range. Ignore the 10.5 kW figure you will find online: that is the North American rating, not the European one. And note that a UK home supply is single phase, so 11 kW becomes 7.4 kW at your wallbox. You only see the full 11 kW on a three-phase supply, which almost no UK house has.

  • Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable:

A charging cable that connects electric vehicles (EVs) with a Type 2 connector to charging points is also equipped with a Type 2 socket. It supports faster charging speeds and is commonly used across Europe for EVs with this standard connection.

  • Type 2 to 3 Pin Charging Cable:

This cable allows electric vehicles with a Type 2 socket to charge from a standard UK 3-pin domestic outlet. It provides a slower charge but is useful for home or emergency charging when dedicated charging stations aren't available.

  • Type 2 Extension Cable:

A cable used to extend the reach of a Type 2 charging cable. It's helpful when the existing cable is too short to connect an electric vehicle to the charging point, providing more flexibility in parking.

  • Type 2 Tethered Cable:

A fixed charging cable attached to a charging point, designed for electric vehicles with a Type 2 socket. The tethered design eliminates the need to carry a separate cable, offering convenience for regular charging at home or work.

  • Type 1 to Type 2 Charging Cable:

A charging cable that connects electric vehicles with a Type 1 socket to charging points equipped with a Type 2 outlet. This allows EVs with the older Type 1 standard to use more modern charging infrastructure.

  • Type 1 to 3 Pin Charging Cable:

This cable enables electric vehicles with a Type 1 connector to charge from a standard UK 3-pin household outlet. It's suitable for slower charging at home when dedicated EV charging points aren't accessible.

Sizing guide
  • 5m - Charging Cable Length

A 5M charging cable is the shortest length that we offer. It is a great option if you can park close to the charge point and do not need much length to reach your car.

  • 10m - Charging Cable Length

A 10M charging cable is the most popular length. It allows you to have enough flexibility whilst still being easy enough to move. This is a great option if you cannot park close to the electricity supply.

  • 15m - Charging Cable Length

A 15M charging cable is a great choice if you need some extra flexibility, i.e. get past another car or reach the other end of a driveway. The length of the cable does not affect the charging speed.

  • 20m - Charging Cable Length

A 20M charging cable is the longest cable that we currently offer. 20M reaches the vast majority of locations where you would want to charge your car. Always use one continuous cable. Never join two charging cables together and never charge through an extension lead, because the join is where heat builds up.

How to choose your charge speed
  • 6amp - 12amp Adjustable

The choice if you will charge from a standard UK 3 pin socket. It runs at the most the socket can safely supply, and the control box lets you turn the current down for a slower, gentler charge overnight or on an older circuit.

  • 16amp

A 16amp cable will be able to charge at 3.7kW. This is the cheapest product if your car's max charge speed is 3.7kW. If you have two electric cars or are looking to purchase another it might be worth considering a faster charging cable as this could limit charge speeds moving forward.

  • 32amp

A 32amp charging cable will be able to charge at 7.4kW, which is the most a single phase UK home supply can deliver. A 32amp cable also charges at every lower speed (for example 16amp, 3.7kW), so it is the right choice if your home charge point is 7.4kW or you mostly charge at home.

  • 32amp (3 Phase)

A 32amp 3-phase charging cable will be able to charge at all speeds up to 22kW, so the cable never limits your charge speed at home or in public. It is also capable of charging at all lower charge speeds.
