The BMW iX2 accepts up to 11 kW on AC. This cable carries the fastest version of the car at full speed and works on any three-phase charge point you meet.

Only charging at home? A British house is single phase, so the car draws 7.4 kW whatever cable is plugged into it. The 32A single-phase cable (5m / 10m / 15m / 20m) gives you all of that for less money.

Every BMW iX2 sold in the UK since March 2024, eDrive20 or xDrive30, charges through a Type 2 inlet on the offside rear wing, which makes the BMW iX2 charging cable a Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable in every case, and on a home wallbox the car settles at 7.4 kW. BMW UK publishes two charging times for the iX2, 6.5 hours with the standard 11 kW onboard charger and 3 hours 45 minutes with the optional 22 kW one. Neither describes a driveway. Both assume three live phases at the socket, an office or car park supply rather than a house, and on one phase the iX2 takes 7.4 kW, so a 64.8 kWh battery needs about 10 hours from empty to full. The car is sold on range, up to 319 miles on the newest eDrive20, and that is what makes those ten hours worth planning around. Nothing else on the specification moves the figure: both badges share one battery, one charger and one inlet, and the 22 kW option counts at a three phase post and nowhere else.

The BMW iX2 charging cable options, and what each one is for

Full rate on a domestic supply: the 32A single phase cable. Our menu calls it 32amp (7.2kW), it works at 7.4 kW, and that is the ceiling for any home fed by one live phase, so an iX2 on this lead is full in 10 hours and gains roughly 36 miles of range each hour. Faster only where three phases arrive: the 32A three phase cable, the most expensive lead here, which the drop down calls 32amp - 3 Phase (22kW). Where a charge point carries three live phases, at an office or a public AC bay, a standard iX2 reaches its 11 kW ceiling and is finished in 6 hours 45 minutes, and a car ordered with the 22 kW charger uses the whole rating and stops after 3 hours 15. Take that same lead home and it hands over the same 7.4 kW as the cheaper one, the spare phases having nothing at the wall to connect to. Too slow for 65 kWh: the 16A cable, sold as 16amp (3.6kW). It holds the car at 3.7 kW, pushes a full charge out to 20 hours, and cuts what a seven hour off peak window returns from roughly 253 miles to 127. On an iX2 that is the difference between a full battery at breakfast and the rest of the charge landing on the day rate.

With the amperage settled, the last variable belongs to your driveway rather than to the car. The iX2 is 4.55 metres long and its charge flap sits on the right hand rear quarter, the driver's side in Britain, so the run from wallbox to socket depends on which way round you leave the car. Back the car towards a charger on that same side and 5 metres covers it with rope to spare. Point the nose at the wall instead, or fit the unit on the nearside of the house, or stand the car outside a garage that holds the charger, and the flap ends up a full body length away, which is what 10 metres is for. Lengths of 15 and 20 metres come in 32A single phase and answer allocated bays, a garage at the foot of a long drive, or a post on the far side of a shared parking area. A quick tape measure round the car, not through it, settles the size.

Our Type 2 to 3-Pin Charging Cable is the one for nights nowhere near a charge point. The drop down calls it 6amp - 12amp Adjustable (2.3kW). Plugged into a normal 13 amp socket it delivers 2.3 kW and puts about 11 miles an hour into an iX2, so a full charge on it runs past 30 hours and is not the point of owning one. It turns a weekend at a relative's house into 80 or 90 miles of range by Sunday morning, and keeps the car usable in the weeks between delivery and the electrician's visit. It is built to IEC 62752, carries a Type B RCD in the control box, dials back to 6 amps for older wiring, and its IP67 sealing copes with an outside socket in the wet.

The iX2 shares its running gear with the taller BMW iX1 charging cable car, and the wider BMW EV charging cables range holds the leads for the rest of the marque. Only the iX2 plugs in: the petrol and diesel X2 sharing its body has no charging socket. BMW UK makes no promise of a Type 2 lead with the car and publishes only the manuals for its Mode 3 cable and Flexible Fast Charger, while UK owners describe boots arriving with a Type 2 cable, with a 3 pin lead, or with neither, so look in the boot before the wallbox is booked. The Type 2 to Type 2 cable here is built to IEC 62196-2, CE marked, sealed to IP55 and good from -30C to +50C. The Type 2 to 3-Pin lead is CE marked, sealed to IP67, and good from -30C to +60C. Delivery inside the UK is free and next working day, returns stay open for 30 days, and both leads carry a 2 year manufacturer's warranty.

There is no separate table for the February 2026 xDrive30. It uses the 65.2 kWh pack, BMW rates it at up to 296 miles, and it collects around 34 miles for each hour on the 32A single phase lead. Add the 22 kW charger and a three phase point and every version above finishes inside 3 hours 15 minutes, gaining 91 to 108 miles an hour as it does. BMW UK publishes WLTP as a band rather than one number, because wheel size and trim move it, so an M Sport iX2 on the largest wheels should expect the bottom of its band: 305 to 319 miles for the current eDrive20, 259 to 267 for the 2024 to 2026 xDrive30. Our 6 hours 45 minutes at 11 kW is a shade longer than BMW's 6.5 hours, a difference in the loss allowance rather than in the car. Sub zero mornings and long fast runs both take a bite out of the range per hour column.

Why does BMW quote 6.5 hours for the iX2 when a home wallbox takes ten?

Because BMW's 6.5 hour figure for the BMW iX2 is measured on a three phase supply at 11 kW, and a British house has one live phase. A domestic wallbox gives the iX2 7.4 kW, which fills the 64.8 kWh battery in about 10 hours rather than 6.5, and the 3 hour 45 minute figure BMW also publishes belongs to the optional 22 kW onboard charger on that same three phase supply. Neither brochure number is wrong; both are measured somewhere your driveway is not.

What cable does a BMW iX2 need at home?

A 32A single phase Type 2 to Type 2 cable, ordered long enough to reach the flap. The BMW iX2 draws 7.4 kW from a domestic wallbox, this cable passes every watt of that, and a 65.2 kWh eDrive20 fills from empty in about 10 hours while adding roughly 36 miles of range for each hour it stays connected. It also works at any untethered Type 2 public post, on street or in a multi storey, with no adapter, which is why most iX2 owners never buy a second lead. Rapid DC points, where the iX2 draws up to 130 kW, arrive with their own tethered cable attached. Scheduling and load balancing sit in the wallbox rather than the cable, so the same lead suits any brand of home charger and survives a switch of car or wallbox later.

Is the 22kW three phase cable worth its price on a BMW iX2?

Only if you regularly charge the BMW iX2 somewhere with three live phases, such as a workplace or a public AC post. On a home supply the three phase cable delivers 7.4 kW, exactly what the cheaper 32A single phase lead gives, so it buys nothing on a driveway. At a three phase point a standard iX2 charges at 11 kW and takes 6 hours 45 minutes, and an iX2 fitted with the optional 22 kW onboard charger takes 3 hours 15 minutes, which is the one case that justifies the price. A BMW dealer can read from the build record which onboard charger your vehicle left the factory with.

Did the February 2026 battery change anything about BMW iX2 charging?

No, not for the cable. The February 2026 BMW iX2 carries 65.2 kWh usable instead of 64.8 kWh, but the Type 2 inlet, the 11 kW standard onboard charger and the 22 kW option all carried over unchanged, so both iX2 models take the same cable and the same 10 hours on a 7.4 kW wallbox. The extra half a kilowatt hour and the efficiency work went into range, which is why the newest eDrive20 is rated at up to 319 miles against 297 for the earlier one.

Can a BMW iX2 be charged from an ordinary 13 amp socket?

Yes, using the Type 2 to 3-Pin Charging Cable, though it is a backup rather than a way of filling a BMW iX2. It takes 2.3 kW from a standard household socket and returns about 11 miles of range an hour, so an overnight stay puts back 80 to 90 miles and a charge from empty would take more than 30 hours. Current is adjustable down to 6 amps for older wiring, a Type B RCD sits in the control box, and the IP67 rating keeps water out, so an outdoor socket is fine in the rain.

How far does the cable have to reach on a BMW iX2?

From the wallbox to the right hand rear quarter of a car 4.55 metres long, which is where the BMW iX2 charging socket sits. Reversed onto a drive with the charger on the driver's side, 5 metres is enough. Nose in, or with the wallbox on the passenger side or around the corner of the house, the cable has to travel the length of the car and 10 metres is the safer order. We stock 5, 10, 15 and 20 metre lengths, and the two longest cover shared parking, kerbside posts and garages set well back from the house, so the choice is the size that reaches rather than the cheapest one. Two factors decide it, which way round the car is parked and which side of the house carries the wallbox, which makes the length easy to settle with a tape.

  • Type 2 to 3 Pin Charging Cable:

  • 5m - Charging Cable Length

    A 5M charging cable is the shortest length that we offer. It is a great option if you can park close to the charge point and do not need much length to reach your car.

  • 10m - Charging Cable Length

    A 10M charging cable is the most popular length. It allows you to have enough flexibility whilst still being easy enough to move. This is a great option if you cannot park close to the electricity supply.

  • 15m - Charging Cable Length

    A 15M charging cable is a great choice if you need some extra flexibility, i.e. get past another car or reach the other end of a driveway. The length of the cable does not affect the charging speed.

  • 20m - Charging Cable Length

    A 20M charging cable is the longest cable that we currently offer. 20M reaches the vast majority of locations where you would want to charge your car. Always use one continuous cable. Never join two charging cables together and never charge through an extension lead, because the join is where heat builds up.

How to choose your charge speed
  • 6amp - 12amp Adjustable

    The choice if you will charge from a standard UK 3 pin socket. It runs at the most the socket can safely supply, and the control box lets you turn the current down for a slower, gentler charge overnight or on an older circuit.

  • 16amp

    A 16amp cable will be able to charge at 3.7kW. This is the cheapest product if your car's max charge speed is 3.7kW. If you have two electric cars or are looking to purchase another it might be worth considering a faster charging cable as this could limit charge speeds moving forward.

  • 32amp

    A 32amp charging cable will be able to charge at 7.4kW, which is the most a single phase UK home supply can deliver. A 32amp cable also charges at every lower speed (for example 16amp, 3.7kW), so it is the right choice if your home charge point is 7.4kW or you mostly charge at home.

  • 32amp (3 Phase)

    A 32amp 3-phase charging cable will be able to charge at all speeds up to 22kW, so the cable never limits your charge speed at home or in public. It is also capable of charging at all lower charge speeds.
