Product Description

An Audi Q8 e-tron takes a Type 2 to Type 2 cable and accepts 11 kW on AC as standard. Order the 32A single phase cable, which hands the car the full 7.4 kW a British home supply can produce.

This car deserves a moment's thought that a smaller EV does not, because the battery is the largest we sell a cable for. A 106 kWh Q8 e-tron 55 takes about 16 hours 15 minutes to fill from empty at 7.4 kW. On a 16A cable that becomes over 32 hours, which is not an overnight charge by any definition, so the 16A is the wrong buy here even though it is cheaper.

Then check the left hand side of your car. The 22 kW twin charger was a cost option and it needed a second charge flap on the near side. If your Q8 e-tron has two flaps and you charge somewhere with three phase power, the three-phase cable genuinely doubles your rate. If it has one flap, or you charge at home, it does nothing the 32A single phase does not already do.

Do not confuse this car with the Audi Q8 TFSI e, which is a petrol plug-in hybrid on the conventional Q8 body, takes 7.4 kW and is a different car entirely. The Compatibility tab lists both, along with the pre-2022 Audi e-tron that the Q8 e-tron was renamed from.

The inlet sits on the offside front wing, ahead of the door, so measure from the wallbox to the front corner of the car. 5m suits a unit on that same side. 10m covers the opposite wall or a second car on the drive.

Elsewhere in the range, the Audi Q4 e-tron has its own page and the Audi charging cable range covers the rest. Built to IEC 62196-2, CE certified, IP55 sealed, rated from -30C to +50C, two year warranty and free next working day UK delivery.

The 89 kWh Q8 e-tron 50 charges at the same rates and finishes roughly three hours sooner. Audi quotes range as a band because wheels and body style move it, and cold weather and motorway speeds reduce the miles per hour figure again.

FAQs

Audi Q8 e-tron Charging Cable FAQs

Which cable does an Audi Q8 e-tron need?

The 32A single phase Type 2 to Type 2 cable. An Audi Q8 e-tron accepts 11 kW on AC, a British house supplies 7.4 kW of that, and the 32A cable passes all of it. Nothing else on sale charges one faster on a driveway.

Is the 16A cable enough for a Q8 e-tron?

No. At 3.7 kW a 106 kWh Audi Q8 e-tron needs over 32 hours from empty, against 16 hours 15 minutes on the 32A. On a battery this size the cheaper cable costs you charges you can never finish.

Does my Q8 e-tron have the 22kW charger?

Look for a second charging flap on the near side of the car. The 22 kW twin charger was a paid option on the Audi Q8 e-tron and it came with an extra port on the left. One flap means 11 kW, and at a house both cables deliver 7.4 kW regardless.

Is the Q8 e-tron the same as the Q8 TFSI e?

No, they are different cars. The Audi Q8 e-tron is fully electric, formerly called the Audi e-tron. The Audi Q8 TFSI e is a petrol plug-in hybrid built on the conventional Q8 and it accepts 7.4 kW. Both take a Type 2 to Type 2 cable, and both are listed in the Compatibility tab.

What length cable does an Audi Q8 e-tron need?

The inlet is on the offside front wing, so measure from the charge point to the front corner of the car with it parked where it normally sits. 5m works when the wallbox is on that side, and 10m covers the opposite wall, a second car, or reversing onto the drive.

Compatibility

The Q8 e-tron is the renamed Audi e-tron, updated in late 2022 with bigger batteries. It is a completely different car from the Audi Q8 TFSI e, which is a petrol plug-in hybrid on the conventional Q8 body. Check which you have. Trim level makes no difference to charging.

About the 22 kW figure: the second onboard charger that raises AC charging to 22 kW was always a cost option and needed a second charge port on the left of the car. Most cars are 11 kW.

Sizing guide
  • Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable:

A charging cable that connects electric vehicles (EVs) with a Type 2 connector to charging points is also equipped with a Type 2 socket. It supports faster charging speeds and is commonly used across Europe for EVs with this standard connection.

  • Type 2 to 3 Pin Charging Cable:

This cable allows electric vehicles with a Type 2 socket to charge from a standard UK 3-pin domestic outlet. It provides a slower charge but is useful for home or emergency charging when dedicated charging stations aren't available.

  • Type 2 Extension Cable:

A cable used to extend the reach of a Type 2 charging cable. It's helpful when the existing cable is too short to connect an electric vehicle to the charging point, providing more flexibility in parking.

  • Type 2 Tethered Cable:

A fixed charging cable attached to a charging point, designed for electric vehicles with a Type 2 socket. The tethered design eliminates the need to carry a separate cable, offering convenience for regular charging at home or work.

  • Type 1 to Type 2 Charging Cable:

A charging cable that connects electric vehicles with a Type 1 socket to charging points equipped with a Type 2 outlet. This allows EVs with the older Type 1 standard to use more modern charging infrastructure.

  • Type 1 to 3 Pin Charging Cable:

This cable enables electric vehicles with a Type 1 connector to charge from a standard UK 3-pin household outlet. It's suitable for slower charging at home when dedicated EV charging points aren't accessible.

Sizing guide
  • 5m - Charging Cable Length

A 5M charging cable is the shortest length that we offer. It is a great option if you can park close to the charge point and do not need much length to reach your car.

  • 10m - Charging Cable Length

A 10M charging cable is the most popular length. It allows you to have enough flexibility whilst still being easy enough to move. This is a great option if you cannot park close to the electricity supply.

  • 15m - Charging Cable Length

A 15M charging cable is a great choice if you need some extra flexibility, i.e. get past another car or reach the other end of a driveway. The length of the cable does not affect the charging speed.

  • 20m - Charging Cable Length

A 20M charging cable is the longest cable that we currently offer. 20M reaches the vast majority of locations where you would want to charge your car. Always use one continuous cable. Never join two charging cables together and never charge through an extension lead, because the join is where heat builds up.

How to choose your charge speed
  • 6amp - 12amp Adjustable

The choice if you will charge from a standard UK 3 pin socket. It runs at the most the socket can safely supply, and the control box lets you turn the current down for a slower, gentler charge overnight or on an older circuit.

  • 16amp

A 16amp cable will be able to charge at 3.7kW. This is the cheapest product if your car's max charge speed is 3.7kW. If you have two electric cars or are looking to purchase another it might be worth considering a faster charging cable as this could limit charge speeds moving forward.

  • 32amp

A 32amp charging cable will be able to charge at 7.4kW, which is the most a single phase UK home supply can deliver. A 32amp cable also charges at every lower speed (for example 16amp, 3.7kW), so it is the right choice if your home charge point is 7.4kW or you mostly charge at home.

  • 32amp (3 Phase)

A 32amp 3-phase charging cable will be able to charge at all speeds up to 22kW, so the cable never limits your charge speed at home or in public. It is also capable of charging at all lower charge speeds.
