The E5 tops out at 11 kW and the two plug-in hybrids at 6.6 kW, so the 3-Phase 32A cable only does anything on the E5, and only if you have a genuine three-phase supply.

A note on the 7 SHS-P's charging speed

You may find UK sources listing the Jaecoo 7 SHS-P at 3.3 kW rather than 6.6 kW. We have gone with 6.6 kW, because Jaecoo's own UK specification table says so and Jaecoo Australia states the same figure for the identical car. Our best guess at the origin of the 3.3 kW claim is that it is the car's vehicle-to-load output, which is a separate thing, copied across into the charging column. Either way a 32A cable covers both figures, so the argument does not change what you should buy.

Charging a Jaecoo without a wallbox

Our Type 2 to 3-Pin cable works from any household 13A socket at 2.3 kW. On the 7 SHS-P that fills the battery from empty in about nine hours, which is a straightforward overnight charge and a realistic way to run the car if you have no charge point. On the 8 SHS-P allow around seventeen hours, and on the E5 closer to twenty-nine, so on those two treat it as a useful second cable rather than your main method. More on charging from a domestic socket.

Cable lengths

Measure from your charge point to the charging flap with the car parked as you normally leave it, then add slack so the cable is not under tension. 5m suits a wallbox right beside the flap, 10m covers most driveways and is our most popular length, and 15m or 20m handle detached garages, shared parking and chargers on the far side of the house. Nine hours from empty means an overnight charge fills it, and you would be adding around 50 electric miles a night. A wallbox and 32A cable is quicker and cheaper to run on an off-peak tariff, but the 3-pin route is genuinely viable on an 18.3 kWh battery in a way it is not on a full EV.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0649/9667/1671/files/790f9913fecb30acdd2238e6bcc5d986_e38bdd72-7f71-4763-b0dc-f946c12ad92f.jpg?v=1787984345
jaecoo-8-charging-cable
Jaecoo 8 Charging Cable

The Jaecoo 8 SHS-P is an odd and interesting thing to buy a cable for. But the onboard charger is a plug-in hybrid's charger: 6.6 kW. An EV-sized battery on a modest charger means this is the slowest-filling plug-in hybrid Jaecoo sells, and the cable you pick matters more than on the 7.

The right cable is our 32A single-phase Type 2 to Type 2. Capped at 3.7 kW you are looking at ten and a half hours for a full charge and only nine electric miles per hour. On the smaller Jaecoo 7 that trade-off is arguable. On a 34.5 kWh battery it is not: you would struggle to fill the car inside an off-peak window and the whole benefit of the large battery would go unused most nights.

A three-phase cable does nothing here. The 8 is a seven-seat all-wheel-drive SUV with 428PS, and it returns around 2.4 miles per kWh, the lowest figure of any chargeable Jaecoo. That is why 34.5 kWh yields 83 miles rather than the 140 or so the same battery would give a small hatchback. It does not change your cable, but it does explain why charge times look long relative to the range you get back.

Our Type 2 to 3-Pin cable takes about seventeen hours from empty here, which is beyond a single night.
